At 90 years old, Iris Apfel has lived a full life. She worked for Women's Wear Daily as a young woman; she founded Old World Weavers, a textile manufacturing company, with her husband; she has even helped with many of the design restoration projects at the White House. In spite of all of these accomplishments, Apfel is most known for one thing: her incomparable sense of style.

The icon has the seemingly effortless ability to mix high fashion and flea market finds to create a quirky look that is all her own. To celebrate her exciting style sense, the Metropolitan Museum of Art displayed her collection of clothing and accessories in a 2005/2006 exhibit entitled, Rara Avis (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel.

Now M.A.C Cosmetics is jumping on the trendy Apfel train by launching a line of makeup on January 5, which is inspired by her colourful image and bright personality. The collection features bright pink and orange lipsticks with matching liners, eye shadows in vibrant tones such as coral and teal, and pretty nail lacquers named after birds such as "Toco Toucan" and "Oriele Orange."

This makeup collaboration is not the only project up Apfel's sleeve these days. The savvy businesswoman also has a line of jewellery with the Home Shopping Network and is working on another collection with award-winning accessories designer, Alexis Bittar. In early 2013, Apfel will also debut a new line of affordable eye wear inspired by her infamous oversize glasses.
