Black Swan Details

I tried to get into the first press screening of Black Swan, but sadly showing up ½ hour before the press screening didn’t cut it—the crowd was enormous! So, I decided to get to this morning’s 9am screening at 7:30am. Luckily, hauling myself out of bed extra early was worth it. It’s hard to know where to start when describing this hallucinogenic thriller. It’s incredibly intense, the musical score is brilliant, and Portman is disturbingly perfect in her role as a psychologically and emotionally tortured ballerina. In some ways, it’s Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler starring a female lead meets Requiem for a Dream. Sadly, I don’t think it’s going to have a mass appeal. But for those who are willing to endure some pretty heavy subject matter, the payoff is huge. FYI: despite all of the buzz about Portman’s Rodarte wardrobe, it definitely doesn’t play a starring role.
