Top 10 Beauty Trends For Spring ‘11
Seen at: Louis Vuitton, Emanuel Ungaro, Marc Jacobs
References to ’70s excess—disco, Studio 54 and Halston—turned up at many shows. The season’s muse: the Helmut Newton woman, who makes an entrance with strong eyes and lips. “It’s very glam,” said makeup artist François Nars of the look he created for Marc Jacobs. “We were inspired by girls from the ’70s, like Anjelica Huston, Donna Mitchell and Pat Cleveland, but made it more modern with a twist to make it Marc Jacobs.” Hair was deliberately frizzed out and pinned with oversized flowers, while eyebrows were bleached. Matte berry lips contrasted with transparent skin, and intense smoky eyes were given a slick of Vaseline. How to translate this high-voltage look for every day? “It’s about picking one element,” said Nars. “Then maybe being a little more natural with the eyebrow or the lipstick colour.”
FLARE picks: Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga, $30. Lancôme Ombre Magnétique in Disco Gold, $47. John Frieda 100% Shine Glossing Mist, $10.50.
