It was pearl faux piercings (courtesy of Swarovski) running along the earlobes, dotting the face and trailing the spine at Chanel that officially confirmed embellishment as a key trend of the season. We first noted the concept in New York, where fine feathers were caged around the hair at Jason Wu. The idea picked up steam in Milan, where Fendi’s eccentric muse sported decorative gold (or silver) leaf foil pressed onto her eyelids. Roberto Cavalli’s bel- ladonnas wore glistening tiaras atop perfectly mussed-up French twists, created by Redken creative consultant Guido Palau. But Paris was where the trend soared. Diamanté headbands at Louis Vuitton suited a sweet prom princess. Meanwhile, Palau channelled a sophisticated ’40s look at Yves Saint Laurent by creating a messy knot and cinching it with a chunky gold clamp commissioned by designer Stefano Pilati for the show. The ’40s woman tapped into her saucy side at Jean Paul Gaultier, where models were inked with faux “I love Jean Paul” tattoos and pierced with silver hoops— mercifully, just on the tips of their blood-red dagger talons.
