The hair was truly wild at Michael Kors, where Orlando Pita created an over-sized braid pulled out and dusted up with dry shampoo. The inspiration was Lauren Bacall, Africa, a journey where curling irons, hair dryers and flat irons don’t exist. “It’s as if the girls pulled leather shoe strings from their boots and tied up their hair with them,” says Pita.
Where did he find the leather straps he wove through the hair using a fish-tail method? When Pita spoke to Kors about the concept, he immediately remembered a shoe repair shop off Bleeker St. in Manhattan, close to where he used to live.
