The fall runways were awash in varying shades of red lipstick, heralding next season’s crimson tide. But much as red lips are the god-given beauty right of every woman, it can be difficult to determine which shade is best for you. Lora Spiga, Lancôme Canada official makeup artist, advises doing some important legwork before focusing on your mouth.
“You have to respect the undertones of your skin before choosing a red lipstick,” she says. “Cool tones and warm tones can’t wear the same shades.” Spiga’s tip for figuring out your undertone is to take a look at the veins on the inside of your forearm: “If your veins appear very blue, you have cool undertones; if they appear greenish-blue, you’re warm.”
