Are you a troubled sleeper? The very same smart phone that could be preventing you from getting a restful sleep is at the ready with an arsenal of apps to remedy all your nocturnal needs. Here are our six picks to help you say, “Good morning!”

Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock
Available for: iPhone, iPad
Price: $0.99

This unique tool detects your various cycles of sleep and will wake you in your lightest sleep phase so you wake up more rested. The futuristic app uses the your iPhone’s accelerometer to detect your movement as you sleep. Based on your level of tossing and turning, the program tracks your various sleep phases from deep to light, and sounds when you’re naturally read to rouse—within a 30 minute window of when your alarm is set to go off. The idea is to wake feeling bright, shiny and ready to face the day. Sign us up!

Smart Alarm Clock: Sleep Cycles & Noise Recording
Available for: iPhone, iPad
Price: $0.99

So you swear you’re not a snorer, but someone else keeps insisting otherwise. This app will put your argument to rest. The multi-tasking tool not only tracks your sleep patterns, and wakes you up at the optimal time, it also records all noises in the room while you’re sleeping; i.e. errant snoring. The tool also stores a record of your snooze with statistics, along with a sound recording of your sleep environment. At least someone will wake up fully rested.

Sleepmaker (Rain, Waves or Wildlife)
Available for: iPhone, iPad, Android
Price: Free ($0.99 for pro version)

If you’re an eco-enthusiast who loves being lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature, these apps are your dream come true. Each Sleepmaker app features a compilation of soothing sounds from your favourite natural source. For example, the Rain tool features 16 tracks of real rainfall recordings, captured in the forests of Australia. You can even customize your preferred force of rain pitter-patter. From the gentle Constant Fall, to the heavy Torrential Downpour—hey, whatever floats your boat.

Sleep Blaster
Available for: iPhone, iPad
Price: $2.99

If you ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed, this one’s for you. The Sleep Blaster has a voice activated shut off, or rather shout off. That’s right, instead of reaching all the way across your nightstand to press snooze, you can let off some morning frustration by yelling, and the alarm will turn off. Now if only car alarms and barking dogs would do the same.

Alarm Clock Pro
Available for: iPhone, iPad
Price: $0.99

With so many tech tools on the market, there’s no need to clutter your bedside with an actual alarm clock—this app’s got you covered. The tool turns your iPhone into a colour display LCD clock, complete with your choice of song as an alarm. It also has a flashlight function and will display the weather conditions when you get up in the morning. It’s your one-stop shop.

SleepCyclesApp Alarm
Available for: BlackBerry
Price: $2.99

Blackberry users don’t need to feel left out. This app graphs your sleep cycles in comparison to the average sleep cycles of humans (somewhere between 90 to 110 minutes). If you get a solid, restful sleep, the app will be able to wake you around the same time that you would naturally rouse, leaving you feeling more rested. The tool also has useful settings for snagging a refreshing nap—approx 15 to 35 minutes is ideal—a “SoftWake Up” alarm to help you gradually wake up, and even a setting for overcoming jetlag. Everything you need for some quality shut-eye.
