Question: I'm
24 years old and i've noticed the texture of my skin has changed
since my teens. I'm apprehensive about using anti-wrinkle creams
and all the skin re-finishing treatments out there, someone told
me they can do more harm than good. I want to protect myself from
future wrinkles but don't know what I can do.
Answer: I wish I was only starting to worry about
my changing, aging skin. And I agree: it’s too soon for you
to begin using anti-wrinkle creams (they can be too rich for your
young complexion) and skin re-finishing treatments (I personally
feel no one under 30 needs a face peel or microdermabrasion treatment).
Instead, take preventative measures with your skin—it’s
never too soon to start aging well. This means using a moisturizer
with at least an SPF 15 every day (the sun is one of the biggest
causes of wrinkles and age spots) and incorporating night creams
and eye creams specifically formulated for fine lines and dulling
skin (A.K.A. The first signs of aging). Try Lancome’s Primordiale
range of skincare—it’s made to answer your concerns.
Plus, don’t forget to exfoliate with a mild
face scrub 2 or 3 times a week to help slough off that dead layer
of skin cells that’s making your complexion look so blah (Dermologica’s
Daily Microfoliant is gentle enough to use every day) . Also schedule
regular facials—four times a year—for a thorough cleansing
and to reassess the changing needs of your skin with your esthetician
as you age.
