The Look: 80s Redux
Purple Puckers. At Modern(ist), M.A.C. makeup artist Neil Young buffed metallic lilac pigment onto models’ lips with a soft brush. At home, you can use a lavender pencil all over lips, or even more wearable, a tinted lipgloss. “Purple works really well with olive and yellow-toned skin,” he recommended.
Try: Sally Hansen Smile Brightening Lip Treatment in Twinkling.
Sleek Hair. Peter Gray’s daring hairstyles were inspired by Helmut Lang minimalism and traditional African braiding. Starting with styling spray, he slicked hair back into a ponytail, then made two twists in a semi-circle shape at either side. Gray secured the ponytails in place by stitching them to hair at the base of the neck using a needle and dressmaking elastic (don’t try this at home!).
Try: L’Oréal Professionel Texture Expert Infinium 2 Regular Hold Working Spray, and a fine toothcomb to create your polished ponytail.
