HOW DO I GET A JOB AT FLARE?
As part of Rogers Publishing Ltd., all FLARE job postings can be found on the Rogers careers page.
WHICH SCHOOLS SHOULD I ATTEND TO GET A JOB AT FLARE?
There isn’t a direct route to a career at FLARE. The educational and work experiences of our staff are varied. We suggest you follow the path that will best prepare you for your field of choice. Do you want to be a fashion editor? A styling certificate might be the way to go. Are you hoping to become a staff writer? There are many fantastic journalism schools to choose from.
By keeping the end goal in mind, you can cater your experiences to build a FLARE-friendly portfolio. And we highly suggest internships and volunteer work to help build your knowledge base.
Here is our list of the top 10 fashion schools in North America.
WHAT COURSES SHOULD I TAKE TO GET A JOB AT FLARE?
Again, the courses you should take depend on the route you wish to pursue. Most FLARE positions involve writing and copy editing, so journalism courses are highly recommended. If you are pursuing art direction, you need a strong sense of design.
Do the research ahead of time. Get a thorough background on the course you are signing up for and understand how you will benefit from it. Also ensure that you are learning the most up-to-date information, particularly when it comes to computer software. Be aware of the industry standards.
CAN I JOB SHADOW AT FLARE?
Unfortunately we do not offer job shadowing.
I AM A FREELANCE WRITER. HOW DO I GET MY STORY PUBLISHED IN FLARE?
We have many established freelance writers whom we work with regularly. If you would like your idea considered for publication, please forward a strong story pitch to the appropriate section editor. If you have not worked with us before, include writing samples, but please be mindful of file sizes.
I’M A HAIRstylist/MAKEUP ARTIST AND WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO A PHOTO SHOOT. HOW CAN I GET HIRED?
FLARE works with a number of reputable agencies to ensure that we are using the best hairstylists and makeup artists in the business. If you are an independent artist, we highly suggest that you approach an agency regarding representation.
I’M A MODEL AND WANT TO BE FEATURED. HOW DO I GET HIRED?
All models for FLARE magazine are booked through reputable modelling agencies and offices. Without exception, no individual employee, photographer or agent will ever cold-call potential models directly on behalf of FLARE, whether by telephone, e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or any website. FLARE representatives will never contact you to request personal information related to working at FLARE. Look for open calls in your area or approach an agency directly about representation. Please do not send model portfolios directly to our editors—they will not be considered.
HOW DO I BECOME A FASHION STYLIST?
Most stylists begin with a strong sense of fashion and go from there. There are styling certificate programs at the college and university level, but perhaps the best experience you can get is through an internship. Approach an established stylist and offer your services. Get noticed for your unique style. The fashion world is small. If you have a strong work ethic and a great sense of style, the word will spread.
Please note that at FLARE styling is done internally.
I AM A NEW DESIGNER. HOW CAN I HAVE MY WORK SHOWCASED IN FLARE?
We are open to meeting with designers and viewing new collections. Please have your PR representative contact the appropriate section editor to set up a deskside review or email and look book/press kit. The same applies to beauty and health products.
Please note that due to the volume of requests, we cannot accommodate all interview requests.
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE AN ITEM I SAW IN THE MAGAZINE?
Where to buy information is listed in the stylesource guide at the back of every issue.
HOW CAN I BOOK AN INTERVIEW WITH A FLARE EDITOR?
Please direct all interview requests to Saphyre Haliburton.
HOW CAN I GET IN TOUCH WITH ONE OF THE MAGAZINE’S CONTRIBUTORS?
We do not offer our contributors’ private contact information. Please direct your inquiry to the section editor.
I AM THE WINNER OF THE LETTER TO THE EDITOR PRIZE, BUT MY PACKAGE HAS YET TO ARRIVE. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?
Please direct all prize inquiries to Morgan Butler.
I’M HAVING DIFFICULTIES ENTERING A FLARE CONTEST, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
