Hair removal and summer go hand in hand, but a bit of precaution is necessary to keep smooth skin safe. “Waxing is like a form of exfoliation because it removes dead skin along with the hair itself,” says Anna Ou, aesthetician at Concepts Salon & Spa in Toronto. “The new skin underneath is more susceptible to a sunburn, or hyper- pigmentation in the long run.” To protect irritated skin, stay out of the sun for 2–3 days after getting waxed, always load up on sunscreen and choose a body lotion that contains calming ingredients such as cucumber or aloe.
